How to Use the House Cleaning Cost Calculator

The house cleaning cost calculator is a tool designed to help you find out how much house cleaning costs. Whether you're asking "How much to clean a house?" or comparing cleaning services, this calculator gives you a clear cost estimate — by hour, by area, or by room count.

Three Calculation Modes

The calculator supports three billing structures used by most professional cleaning services:

1. By Hour

If the cleaning company charges per hour of work:

  • Enter the hourly rate (e.g., $40/hour)
  • Enter the number of hours needed
  • Formula: Total = Price per hour × Hours

Example: 8 hours × $40/hour = $320

2. By Area (ft² or m²)

If the company charges per square foot or square meter:

  • Choose your unit system: Imperial (ft²) or Metric (m²)
  • Enter the price per unit of area
  • Enter the total area to be cleaned
  • Formula: Total = Price per area unit × Area

3. By Room Count

If the company charges separately for each room type:

  • Enter the number of regular rooms and the price per room
  • Enter the number of bathrooms and the price per bathroom (note: a separate toilet counts as 0.5 bathrooms)
  • Enter the kitchen cleaning price
  • Formula: Total = (Rooms × Price/room) + (Bathrooms × Price/bath) + Kitchen price

What Affects House Cleaning Prices?

Beyond the calculation modes above, several factors influence the final price:

  • Type of cleaning:
    • Standard cleaning — regular tasks: vacuuming, mopping, bathroom and kitchen surfaces, general tidying.
    • Deep cleaning — thorough cleaning of hard-to-reach areas, behind appliances, windows, tiles, ceiling fans. Typically costs $10–$20 more.
    • Move in/move out cleaning — all of the above plus walls and ceilings. Comparable to or more expensive than deep cleaning.
    • After-event cleaning — post-party cleanup including dishes, trash removal, and general tidying.
  • Location: Cleaning services in large cities tend to cost more than in rural areas.
  • Frequency: Regular weekly or bi-weekly cleanings often come at a discount compared to one-time sessions.
  • Home condition: Heavily soiled spaces require more time and effort, raising the price.
