The ICC T20 Rankings Calculator determines how many match points a cricket team earns after a T20 International match. The International Cricket Council (ICC) uses a points-based system to rank the 91+ member nations in T20 cricket. This calculator shows you exactly how many points each team gains — or loses — from a single match result.
How the ICC T20 Ranking Points System Works
Rankings are calculated over a rolling 12-month period. Older matches carry less weight over time. The total points accumulated are divided by the number of matches played to produce each team's rating. The key factors determining match points are:
- Pre-match ratings of both teams
- Rating difference between the two sides
- Match outcome (win, loss, or tie)
Note: the winning margin (runs or wickets) does not affect the points earned.
Points Calculation Rules
When Rating Difference < 40 (Close Match)

Example Calculation
England (rating: 248) vs Australia (rating: 275). England wins.
- Rating difference = |275 − 248| = 27 → Close match rule applies
- England (Team 1) points = 275 + 50 = 325
- Australia (Team 2) points = 248 − 50 = 198
Why Rankings Matter
The ICC T20 World Cup qualification uses the rankings as a cut-off point. The top 8 teams on the ICC's specified cut-off date automatically qualify for the main event (Super 12 stage). The next group of teams competes in qualifying rounds for the remaining spots. A single upset win can significantly boost a lower-ranked nation's points when the rating difference exceeds 40.
