The Money Weight Calculator
Welcome to the CalcuGo Money Weight Calculator — a simple tool that calculates how much a certain amount of money would weigh in different bill or coin denominations, or tells you how much money you'd have given a certain weight. 💰⚖️
Have you ever wondered how much one million dollars would weigh if you were to collect it in $1 bills? Or how much money you'd have if you weighed out 20 pounds worth of quarters? This calculator answers all those questions!
How Much Do Dollar Bills Weigh?
American paper currency comes in seven denominations: $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 — and they all weigh exactly 1 gram. This means the face value of the bill doesn't affect its weight at all.
| Denomination | Weight per bill |
|---|---|
| $1 bill | 1.0 g |
| $2 bill | 1.0 g |
| $5 bill | 1.0 g |
| $10 bill | 1.0 g |
| $20 bill | 1.0 g |
| $50 bill | 1.0 g |
| $100 bill | 1.0 g |
How Much Do US Coins Weigh?
Unlike bills, US coins have different weights depending on their denomination:
| Coin | Weight |
|---|---|
| 1¢ penny | 2.500 g |
| 5¢ nickel | 5.000 g |
| 10¢ dime | 2.268 g |
| 25¢ quarter | 5.670 g |
| 50¢ half dollar | 11.340 g |
| $1 coin | 8.100 g |
How Much Does $1 Billion Weigh?
It depends on the denomination! Here are some examples:
- $1 billion in $100 bills: 10,000,000 bills × 1 g = 10 metric tons (~22,046 lbs)
- $1 billion in $1 bills: 1,000,000,000 bills × 1 g = 1,000 metric tons
- $1 billion in quarters: 4,000,000,000 coins × 5.67 g = 22,680 metric tons
That bag of quarters would be approximately nine times heavier than the revolving service structure of the launch pad at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida — one of the heaviest objects ever weighed!
