How do I calculate the pie chart?
The calculator follows these steps for each segment:
- Finds the total of all values in the dataset.
- Divides each segment's value by the total to get the percentage:
(value / total) × 100. - Multiplies the percentage by 360° to calculate the central angle:
(value / total) × 360°. - Generates a sector in the pie chart with this degree measure for each segment.
How to make a pie chart? An example
Suppose you have five groups with the following values:

How do I calculate the percentage for a pie chart?
The percentage for each segment is: Percentage = (Segment Value / Total) × 100.
The central angle in degrees is: Degrees = (Segment Value / Total) × 360.

- Can segment values be zero?
- Yes, a segment value of 0 is allowed (it will show 0% and 0°), but the total of all values must be greater than zero for the chart to be calculated.
