What Is a Price / Quantity Calculator?
Our price per unit calculator — also called a unit price calculator — lets you compare two products of different quantities and prices to find the best deal. Simply enter the price and quantity for each product, choose your currency and measurement unit, and the calculator instantly tells you which item gives you the most value for your money.
How to Use the Price / Quantity Calculator
- Select your currency and measurement unit (weight, volume, or count).
- Enter the price and quantity for Product A.
- Enter the price and quantity for Product B.
- Click Calculate to see the unit prices and find out which product is the better buy.
The You Save box shows how much more you would have paid if you bought the same amount at the more expensive unit price — so you always know exactly how much the better deal is worth.
Price Per Unit Formula
The calculation is straightforward:
Price per unit = Total price ÷ Quantity
For example, if Product A costs $1.00 for 1 kg and Product B costs $1.35 for 1.5 kg:
- Unit price A = $1.00 ÷ 1 = $1.00/kg
- Unit price B = $1.35 ÷ 1.5 = $0.90/kg
- Product B is cheaper — you save $0.15 per 1.5 kg.

FAQs
How can I calculate price per unit?
To calculate the price per unit, follow these steps:
- Note the total cost of the product.
- Divide it by the quantity of the product.
- The result is the cost per unit.
You can then compare the results for different products to determine which offers better value for money.
Is buying a larger package always better?
Not always! While larger packages often have a lower unit price, this is not guaranteed. Use our calculator to check — sometimes smaller packages are on sale and offer a better deal. The unit price formula gives you the objective answer every time.
What does "You Save" mean?
The You Save amount tells you how much extra you would spend if you bought the same quantity at the more expensive unit price. It helps you understand the real financial impact of choosing one product over another.
Do I need to use the same units for both products?
Yes — for an accurate comparison, both products should be measured in the same unit. For example, compare kilograms with kilograms, or liters with liters. Mixing units (e.g., kg and lb) will give incorrect results.
Where is unit price information shown in stores?
In many countries and stores, the price per unit is printed on the shelf label. However, you may find yourself in situations where that information is not available — such as when comparing prices mentioned in conversation, in online stores, or at markets. Our calculator is always ready to help.
