Remember: our calculator generates figures based on the minimal recommended distance for the selected species. You can always increase the spacing — more room means healthier, larger trees.
To calculate trees per acre, input 1 acre (660 × 66 ft or 208 × 20 m). If you have five acres, multiply the per-acre result by five — note this is approximate since the calculator rounds down.

What Is the Formula for Calculating Tree Spacing?
The formula for trees per acre is:
Trees per acre = 43,560 ÷ (row spacing ft × tree spacing ft)
For metric:
Trees per hectare = 10,000 ÷ (row spacing m × tree spacing m)
The total number of trees that fit in a rectangular area is:
Total trees = floor(length ÷ row spacing) × floor(width ÷ tree spacing)
The floor function rounds down to the nearest whole number — you can't plant a fraction of a tree!
